Welcome to the Sala Lab

Physiological Plant Ecology

We are broadly interested in the physiological basis of plant performance in the field, with a special focus on plant resource dynamics and its implications on plant life history strategies and plant responses to their environment. Our driving force is the curiosity to understand how and why plants function the way they do in the face of fluctuating and challenging environmental conditions. Much of our research is on trees, particularly conifers, although we also work on other plant life forms. Some of our research is basic in nature while some has direct management implications. Click on the “Research’ tab to see the types of patterns and questions that have intrigued us.

Why the Sala Lab? Because we are driven (although a bit goofy) and students do very well.

Why OBE? Because it is a very strong graduate program.

Why Montana? Because it is beautiful.
