Majors and Courses

Whether you are on the path to becoming a doctor, seek to teach, or want to dig deep into the diversity and complexity of living systems, DBS has a major for you. We offer 10 undergraduate options within three degrees (B.A. in Biology, B.S. in Microbiology, B.S. in Medical Technology).  DBS Advising, staffed by Dr. Kerry Bright and senior students, provides both online resources and one-on-one consultation to guide you through your degree program and toward your career. DBS also offers a wealth of courses for non-majors, teaching everything from field identification skills to general principles of ecology and evolution to science writing. Discover biology with teachers who create the science and write the textbooks (and who love to teach).

Research Opportunities

Learn biology by doing science. DBS offers many opportunities for hands-on training in the skills necessary for a career in any biological field. Our students take innovative research-focused courses at all levels, work side-by-side with faculty and graduate students on cutting-edge research projects, and apply their skills in the surrounding communities and worldwide.  If you'd like to get involved in research, follow the guidelines on the DBS advising site and browse the webpages of DBS faculty to identify potential mentors, and then reach out to make a research connection. As a student researcher, you may find yourself searching for invasive plants across Eastern Europe, staging fights between fruit flies, or probing the structure of a viral protein. You'll certainly see science from a new angle.
