All students begin as Pre–English majors. This designation allows students to explore the different options before selecting their ultimate plan of study. In order to declare an option in the major and move from Pre–English, students must satisfy the following requirements:
- completion of 24 semester credits
- cumulative GPA of 2.5 or proof of improvement (term GPA of at least 2.5 for previous two terms)
- completion of WRIT 101 or equivalent
- completion of at least 9 credits in English (ENFM, LIT, ENCR, LING) with grades of at least C or better
Before a student can graduate with a major in English, she/he must meet the requirements to become an English major and declare a specific option within the program. All Pre–English majors must meet with the English Academic Advisor for advising concerns.
