The historic Moon-Randolph Homestead, part of Missoula's Open Space System, Saturdays from 11 am-5 pm, from May through October (fire danger and weather permitting).  Visitors can picnic in the apple orchard, check out funky artifacts, take an historic tour or nap under the trees.

Volunteer for Conservation in beautiful Montana. Summer 2012, the UM Wilderness Institute will take volunteers into the Big Snowy Mountains and Middle Fork Judith River Wilderness Study Areas. Volunteers will work with experienced field leaders to map and monitor weeds, inventory campsites and recreation impacts, and monitor wilderness character. Info on wilderness program here.

Various Days

Wilderness Institute Citizen Science summer backpack/monitoring trips start June 22. Work with experienced field leaders to map and monitor weeds, inventory recreation impacts, and evaluate wilderness character of sites in the Northern Rockies. Learn about invasive species, monitoring methods, native plants, and the natural history and wildlife of these majestic landscapes. Backcountry experience is helpful but not necessary. Dinners provided. Transportation is available from Missoula and select towns in the study area vicinity. Some trips are day hikes, some are multiple day camping trips.
