Abstract

A preface is made to Paul Ernestís Reflections on theories of learning with a particular emphasis on exploring whether social constructivism as a philosophy of mathematics is applicable to mathematics education for the purposes of theory generation. The works of Imre Lakatos and Reuben Hersh are referred to in relation to their fit with the contributions of Ernest.
