Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Robert M. Burgess Memorial Scholarship is to provide scholarships for promising worthy students majoring in the humanities. Need should be considered as a tie-breaker between equally qualified candidates.

Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Classical Languages

The purpose of the Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Classical Languages is to reward superior achievement in the study of Classical Languages (classical Greek, Latin, or by Marguerite's definition, Italian). It will provide either a scholarship toward UM tuition or a cash award to help offset the expenses of participating in UM's Study Abroad Program to Rome or Greece. The choice will be the student's as to whether the award is to be used for tuition or as a cash award.

Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages

The purpose of the Henry and Marguerite Ephron Award in Modern Languages is to reward superior achievement in the study of modern languages. It will provide either a scholarship toward UM tuition or a cash award to offset the expenses of participating in UM's French, German, or Spanish study abroad program. Another modern language program that has an enrollment greater than that of any one of the three above mentioned may also be considered. The choice will be the student's whether the income will be used for tuition or as a cash award.

The Flightner Scholarship

The purpose of the Flightner Scholarship is to provide scholarships for deserving undergraduate students at The University of Montana who are majoring in Spanish, have financial need and wish to participate in a foreign study program. Preference should be given to students who are Montana residents. If an outstanding student is identified who meets the above requirements but is not able to study abroad, that student may be considered. Similarly, if UM's study abroad program ceases to exist, otherwise qualified Spanish majors may be considered. The amounts of the scholarship awards and the number of recipients thereof shall be determined by a scholarship committee appointed by the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

Edith B. Hamilton Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Edith B. Hamilton Memorial Scholarship is to provide an annual award to a student majoring in French at The University of Montana. The recipient must be a Montana resident and selection is to be based on high academic achievement.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for deserving students at UM who are majoring or minoring in Russian or to provide an award for worthy students to allow them to participate in the Russian Study Abroad Program.

Louise Lilly McBride Scholarship

The purpose of the Louise Lilly McBride Scholarship is to provide scholarships to students based on need and academic merit for study abroad. The amounts of the scholarship awards and the number of recipients thereof shall be determined by a scholarship selection committee within the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at UM. Please note the donor wishes only one scholarship to a student for 07-08.

Missoula Noon Rotary Club Scholarship for Study Abroad

The Fund is to provide support for a scholarship or cash award to a student who is participating in the Study Abroad Program at The University of Montana. The recipient must be from Montana, with preference given to Missoula County applicants. The preference would be to rotate the awards, to the extent practical, between the French, Spanish, and German Study Abroad Programs. However, if a deserving student is identified from within one of those programs, yet it is not that program's rotation, such a student can qualify as a recipient. A scholarship selection committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures shall select the finalists and ultimate recipient. Once the finalists have been selected, a member of the Missoula Noon Rotary Club, if available, will be invited to participate on the committee.

Powell German Scholarship

The purpose of the Powell German Scholarship is to provide an annual award to a student or students studying German at The University of Montana. While it is preferable that the recipients be German majors, a student who is majoring in another area but studying German seriously (for example, pursuing it as a minor) may be considered as well. The recipients must be academically strong students. It is preferable, but not mandatory, that the recipients be participating in a Study Abroad program.

Rose Southworth Megee Scholarship

The purpose of the Rose Southworth Megee Scholarship is to provide an annual award to a deserving student in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at The University of Montana. The Fund shall be awarded in the fall of each year for students participating in a study abroad program the following spring or summer.
