Native American Student Scholarships



The University of Montana's Native American Studies Department is dedicated to promoting high academic achievement among Native American students and assisting them to reaching their educational goals. To uphold this objective, scholarships are awarded each year to undergraduate and graduate students in various University of Montana-Missoula and UM-College of Technology majors. Scholarship funds are limited and the selection process is competitive.

The Native American Studies Department is responsible for overseeing several undergraduate and graduate scholarships, some of which have unique criteria set forth by their donor(s). Although the scholarships have diverse requirements, only one application packet needs to be submitted. Several scholarships have unique essay requirements (please see the Scholarship Descriptions page).

The Native American Student Scholarship program is available to all Native American students enrolled or planning to enroll at The University of Montana or UM College of Technology. All majors are encouraged to apply.

All completed applications submitted by the March 1st deadline will be evaluated. Completed applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee and successful applicants are then matched with the appropriate scholarship. Late applications will be kept on file and reviewed if additional funding becomes available.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must plan on enrolling or be admitted to The University of Montana-Missoula or UM-College of Technology.
  • Applicants must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe or provide documentation of descendency.
  • Students are required to enroll full-time each semester (12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits).
  • Students must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average to be considered.
  • New and Transfer students are required to complete the New Student Orientation process.
